The idea for the show started out as a police drama loosely based on the experiences of his writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective and public school teacher. [4] The most popular character of the show appears to be Stringer Bell. He is the real brains behind the Barksdale operation. His efforts at self-improvement are an example of the American Dream. Bell might be a murderous drug kingpin but he takes economics classes to try to increase the value of his business. That Stringer turns up at a class called Introduction to Macroeconomics and yet receives Microeconomics 101 (supply and demand) is just one of the many errors strewn through the 5 seasons but as so much goes right the mistakes can be ignored.

Bubbles is recovering from his drug addiction while living in his sister's basement. He is befriended by Sun reporter Mike Fletcher, who eventually writes a profile of Bubbles. There are also quite a few sex scenes. The scenes are cleverly put together in that they often match the character traits of those involved. The sex scenes featuring the Cedric Daniels character are determined and studied while those with Jimmy McNulty are more energetic. The sex scenes aren't especially stimulating though Kima Greggs does have one particularly steamy session.The music of The Wire is most memorable for the introduction credits song Way Down In The Hole. The best version is definitely the season 1 version by The Blind Boys of Alabama. Their version of the song is incredible. The season 4 version is also pretty good. The others are ok.
