As his personal training business grew, he was working at a gym with two friends who “were also reformed characters; they’d been in even more scrapes than I had when I was younger. And we had these baronesses, lords and millionaires coming in and out, really getting off on talking to people with accents. I kept thinking: ‘You’re sitting in the House of Lords and I can run rings around you in an argument if I have to.’ I was just so underwhelmed.” Mr Morris started the account with the name “Mark ne Francois pas” and used it to parody Tory MP Mark Francois. It then became “Michael Govern Ready” before eventually transitioning to “The Secret Tory”.He told BBC News: “If people are feeling cheated I’m not a real MP, I’d like to say I’m sorry. But I’m not. It’s got a lot more to do with the behaviour of the people sitting in Westminster, than my skills as a con artist.”
