While there is naturally a little blurring from the movement of these actors, there is very little image noise, and almost none in the highlight areas. The EOS 450D performs extremely well at high ISO settings. Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 24 January 2008: Canon today launches its latest D-SLR, the EOS 450D. Featuring a 12.2 Megapixel CMOS sensor, EOS Integrated Cleaning System, 3.0” LCD with Live View mode and a new 9-point AF system, the model presents consumers with an unprecedented level of image quality and versatility at this end of the market. At the heart of any Canon camera is the shutter unit. Canon test and rate their shutter units ahead of each new camera launch for example the Canon EOS 1DX Mark III is rated up to 500,000 shutter actuations. The exposure metering is usually very good, but does tend to under-expose a little in bright sunlight. The EOS 450D is designed to make photography a fluid experience for photographers of all levels and experience. Housed in a compact body that weighs less than 475 grams, the camera features an improved grip design that provides a natural, ergonomic fit with the user’s hands. A large, bright viewfinder makes image composition clearer and more comfortable. The menu system inherited from professional EOS cameras uses a simplified tab structure that does away with scrolling. It includes a user-defined My Menu tab for instant access to frequently used settings. ICC (International Colour Consortium) profiles can be attached to TIFF or JPEG images when converted from RAW. This allows faithful reproduction of colours in software applications that support ICC profiles, such as Adobe Photoshop. For improved efficiency, a set of image adjustments can be saved as a recipe and applied. Seriously though, while the EOS 450D’s sensor and image processor capture plenty of colour and contrast they are let down by the less-than-stellar sharpness of the kit lens.

Unlike Sony, Pentax and Olympus, Canon doesn’t use body-integral image stabilisation, instead using optical stabilisation built into most of its lenses. It can be argued that this makes the lenses heavier and more expensive, but there’s no denying that it is a very effective system. The standard kit for the 450D includes an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens. I found that with some care I was able to take shake-free hand-held shots at some very low shutter speeds, even as low as 1/8th of a second. for up to 53 JPEGS, 6 RAW files, impressive for an entry-level model. All in all a great performance given the large 12 megapixel Canon has always made a big thing about extremely fast shooting speeds in continuous mode, and for some people this is a major selling point in a digital SLR. I must admit I rarely use continuous mode, so I tend to consider other features more important, however the 450D will not disappoint those who feel a need for speed. In continuous mode it can rattle off 3.5 shots per second, which while not quite at the level of the EOS 1D MkIII is still pretty respectable, beating the Sony A350, Nikon D80 and Pentax K200D, and equalling the Olympus E-420.Landscape– for punchier greens and blues with stronger sharpening to give a crisp edge to mountain, tree and building outlines Our technicians can provide a rapid diagnosis and a clear estimate where we describe the faults found and the steps needed to get your camera fixed. If your Canon camera is showing an err error code, or if your images are not as sharp as they used to be we’ll get to the bottom of it. little finger has nowhere to go. The most obvious difference is the larger 3 inch LCD screen, which has necessitated the removal of the vertical row of 5 buttons as found on the EOS 400D, which have now been dispersed around the rest of the camera. The Canon EOS 450D looks and feels more expensive than it is actually is, and is certainly solid enough for an entry-level DSLR.
