I've probably said this before, when I read the other Stranger Things comics, but I am a huge fan of the series. It is by far one of my all time favorite TV shows, if not my absolute favorite. So I knew I'd be reading anything I can get my hands on that's related to it. In the fall of 1984, Mike and his friends were looked after by Steve. Steve was adamant that they remained at the Byers' home, using football analogies to prove his point, but Mike insisted that their situation "[wasn't] a stupid sports game". Mike later cheered for Steve as he and Billy fought, and reluctantly agreed on taking an unconscious Steve with them to the pumpkin patch. As Steve slowly awoke hazily, he mistook Mike for Nancy, causing Mike to look at him in disgust. Though the original pitched vision was set in Long Island, the show found its fictional home in Hawkins, simply transplanting the existing lore of Camp Hero to create unforgettable characters like Eleven and this season’s central foe, Vecna/Henry/001. In early 2021, Jonathan Byers would be added as a Legendary skin for Steve, making him playable in the game alongside the others. In 1984, following a falling-out with Nancy, Steve became an ally to the Party , especially Dustin Henderson, with whom he formed an unlikely friendship. He became a sort of authority figure for the party and became a major player in the battle against the Mind Flayer.

I wanted to – badly. But “Stranger Things: Volume I” is pretty much the definition of a “cash-in” – a tie-in comic that exists solely to siphon a little extra dough off of the property’s current red-hot status in the marketplace. Reading these four issues is a little like reading a teaser for a big comic book event – there’s little to no real plot, the art is functional at best, and everything feels slightly obligatory, almost like this comic exists because, well, of course it HAS to, it’s freaking “Stranger Things”! Everything people tell you is important, everything that people say you should care about, it's all just bullshit. I was super excited to read this book which contains Stranger Things: The Other Side comics #1-4. Stranger Things is one of my favorite Netflix series (all three seasons), so I grabbed this as soon as I saw it.
